On May 7, 1993, Ajla Tomljanovic was born in Zagreb, Croatia. Her parents, Ratko and Emina, were both professional handball players, and Ajla grew up in a family passionate about sports. When she was six, her family moved to Australia and she started playing tennis shortly after. She was promising from a young age and started playing competitively when she was just eight years old.
